An optical film that uses the interference principle to allow only light in a specific spectral range to pass through. It usually consists of multiple layers of thin film. Common interference filters are divided into two categories: cut-off filter and bandpass filter. The cut-off filter can divide the spectral range into two regions, the light in one region cannot pass through (the cut-off region), and the light in the other region can pass through fully (the passband region). Typical cut-off filters have short-pass filters (allowing only short-wave light to pass through) and long-pass filters (allowing only long-wave light to pass through), which are multi-layer dielectric films with a periodic structure composed of alternating high-refractive index layers and low-refractive index layers.
Neutral density filter is a filter that only attenuates the light intensity without changing the spectral energy distribution, also known as the attenuator.
